12.13 - Happy Holidays

I've uploaded your final exam grades to the course folder. Overall, y'all did very well on the final; your preparation paid off! As usual, if you have any questions, you know my email address. I won't be on campus next semester, but Sabir will have your blue books if you want to look over them.

Have a great winter break!

12.06 - Final Exam

Grades for the second set of summaries (as well as the first) are posted in the course folder. If you have any concerns/comments/complaints/corrections please let me know ASAP. If you have gone back and revised any of your summaries but have not told me (via email or explicitly on your Reading Summaries page), please tell me now.

To help y'all prepare for the final exam, I've created a Final Exam Discussion page. I'll check it regularly (every few hours) from now until the exam on Friday. You can use the page to form a study group, ask me about the questions, discuss the new readings, etc. As much as possible, I'd like to maintain correspondence regarding the exam on this page so that everyone can benefit from postings.

11.04 - Reading Summaries

I have posted all your grades to date (up through 10.20) to the course folder. I will be posting comments on your pages today, tomorrow, and through the weekend. Until then, please review the example summaries page.

Everyone has a clean slate with this next set of summaries. To make my life easier (a.k.a. - increase your chance of getting a really good grade) please follow these Formatting Guidelines. Thanks!

10.10 - 10.10 Reading Summary & PedEx

Please notice that the deadline for the reading summary originally due tonight has been postponed until Wednesday 10.13. I will not excuse anyone from turning this in on time. Some of you have had problems accessing the course folder and your grades; I think this is fixed now, but please contact me if you're still having trouble. I will try to post my comments on your 09.13 and 09.19 assigments within the next couple days.

By tomorrow I hope each of you has had a chance to make an initial visit to your group's street segment. This week you'll start your actual documentation work so I want to get any questions cleared up ASAP. Rather having each of you individually emailing me with concerns, I'd prefer you posting such queries on your group's page so that everyone can be involved.

Go Jackets! How 'bout them Dawgs? PISS ON 'EM!

10.04 - PedEx Groups & 10.03 Assignment

If you haven't turned in your summaries for the 10.03 assignment, please do so by midnight tonight (10.04) or I will have to give you a 0. Also, make sure that you have followed the instructions correctly and have posted one summary from each of the pairs of articles.

Each of you how now been assigned to one of the PedEx groups; those of you who didn't sign up on your own have been assigned randomly. Each group has been assigned a street section. I have gone ahead and created a page for each group that you can use to organize yourselves, discuss the project, and/or establish your group's identity.

Please visit Meet with Your Favorite TA (a.k.a. - me) to sign up for a half-hour time slot when your group will be available to meet with me. Your entire group has to be in attendance at this meeting! For the sake of my sanity and your inboxes, it'll be helpful for your group to elect one person to be my liaison. This liaison will be the person with whom I will maintain regular correspondence throughout the remainder of the semester.

If your group is unable to meet with me this Tuesday or Thursday, have your group's liaison send me an email so that we can arrange another meeting time.

Group C-1 (Q) : Group C-2 (W) : Group C-3 (Y) : Group C-4 (U)
Group C-5 (S) : Group C-6 (Z) : Group C-7 (X) : Group C-8 (V)

I hope y'all are excited about this project! Make sure you've carefully read over the PedEx and street documentation pages before your group's meeting.

I'll see each of you soon!

10.01 - PedEx

Don't forget to sign-up for one of the PedEx groups by Sunday night. If you haven't signed up for a group by then, I will randomly assign you to a group on Monday morning. If possible, I would like to meet with each group on Tuesday (10.05) to answer any remaining questions so y'all can get started figuring out how to tackle this project.

If you have any quesitons this weekend, you can feel free to email me.

09.10 - Grades

You can now access your grades from the course folder. To find out how, visit the check your grades page.

Hopefully the comments I have made on your assignments will clarify the grades you have received. Before you email me with your questions or concerns, please make sure that you have read the summaries instructions and proofread your work as it appears on the web (not necessarily the same as it appeared in your word processor).

I will be happy to review your work or further explain my comments. If you would like to respond on your summaries page to my comments or any of the questions I might have asked you, please do so! I only ask that you clearly mark your response by using a color other than black (your original text) or green (my comments). Also, please send me an email or put my name in the "send email alerts" box so that I know to look at your page.

09.01 - General Comments

Believe it or not, I have read through each of your reading summaries for Assignment 08.25. If you haven't done so, I'd encourage you to peruse a few of your classmates' pages - both reading summaries and personal pages. You'll soon realize how diverse our section is: having lived in the country, all over the country, or in another country.

Remember that COOLdaze is a collaborative website. As your TA I will soon start infecting your pages with my comments, questions, links, etc. For this reason, please DO NOT LOCK your reading summaries page. (You might also consider keeping your personal page unlocked, but that's up to you.) As a general rule, you can spot my handiwork because it will be green.

In general, I'm quite pleased with everyone's responses for the first assignment. Like the other TAs, I am mindful of grammar, punctuation, and sentence/paragraph structure in your writing. Please check your spelling; make sure words mean what you think they do; construct a well-supported, logical argument; have something interesting to say. You don't want your TA to lose his train of thought and derail your grade!

Because I'll be updating this page at seemingly random times and with varying amounts of real content, I am NOT adding any addresses to the "send e-mail alerts" box. This does, however, mean that you're responsible to keep yourself updated on the information I'm posting. I'd suggest adding this page to your "Favorites" or "Bookmarks" and checking in a few times a week if not daily. If a matter of earth-shattering importance does arise and I feel you need to be informed immediately, don't be too surprised if you do find a friendly email from your favorite TA lurking in your inbox.

Make sure you get your Assignment 09.01 turned in by midnight!

Q&A - Assignment 08.25

I've been asked a question regarding the terms "urban fabric" and "social fabric."

It might be easiest to approach these in light of the famous line from Shakespeare's As You Like It, "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players..." You can think of the urban fabric like a theatrical set in which the social fabric of actors and actresses interact with one another.

For this assignment you're asked to list/identify the qualities of this particular scene and people involved in it.

I hope this helps; if not, feel free to email with further questions and I'll try to respond promptly via email or this page.

Greetings!

As Sabir stated in class on Friday, I'm starting the two-year M.Arch.I program after having completed my undergraduate work here at Tech in May 2003. When I arrived on campus in 1998, we were still under the quarter system so this semester is my first real encounter with the Common First Year.

I'll try to keep this page updated throughout the semester with information that you'll find helpful, enlightening, and possibly even entertaining.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you, so if you haven't done so, I'd encourage you to make a contribution to the Personal Pages. Also, if you see me somewhere around campus (most likely in the Architecture Building), come up and introduce yourself!
