Hello All, I am Sara, as you probably noticed! I am 21, and live up in Gainesville. It’s a real nice hour or two drive each day… real fun, let me tell ya! During the summer I like to spend as much time as possible out on the lake, and having fun with my friends. I also like to spend time with my family, which includes my mom and dad, sister and brother-in-law, and my chocolate lab, Sadie.

exercise 1.1: contour line
The contour line drawing helped reveal the many lines that separate the landscape in different ways. I saw how there were lines to separate the buildings from the trees and the air, but I also saw how a line could separate one material from another, the light from a shadow, and from color to color. The urban landscape drawing also revealed lines that could differenciate between things that were near and far. I also learned that lines lead to things rather than always separate them. A line can lead to many other lines. It can lead from light to dark and near to far rather than separate the two.
The contour line drawing forced me to look for and find lines that I normally overlooked or didn't pay any attention to in the past.
A different kind of drawing would draw my attention to the landscape in a different way. I probably wouldn't have found the lines that I did the same way I found them doing the contour drawing. There are other things that may have grasped my attention such as color or texture rather than shape had I been doing another kind of drawing.
