The contour drawing helped me realize that the forms of different structures are emphasized by color and shade. For instance, a building and a tree require a different size outline because a building has harder bolder lines as opposed to a tree which blends somewhat into the back ground and therefore does not need such a hard line.
Yes, it was because of the continuous contour line drawing that I realized this. I found it hard to distinguish between buildings and trees without switching to thicker lines. When I was able to use different pencils with different line thicknesses, I found it much easier to distinguish between buildings, trees, and even the frame of the window.
I believe that charcoal would lead to this discovery because you can use charcoal make different thicknesses in lines so it would be separate the trees and skyscrapers.
