1011 materials list

All materials are available at UTRECHT, 878 Peachtree Street, at the intersection with 7th Street

In order to make it easier for you, the Utrecht staff has set out all the items listed below at the front of the store. Tell them you are a College of Architecture student. If you would like to look at more expensive options for the same items, please ask the sales staff to show them to you.

1. the first set of items should be purchased immediately for the first class session: 08.18 or 08.19
  • tackle box, tool box, or ArtBin for your supplies
  • portfolio (to store work on sheets up to 18"x24". a portfolio with 'stiff' sides would be best. if however, you choose to get a cloth portfolio, you will need to stiffen it with sheets of chip board)
  • 18" x 24" sketch pad [clear white, not cream or buff]
  • 18" x 24" newsprint pad
  • wooden sketching pencils: 4B, 2B, HB, ebony
  • a pencil sharpener - metal ones sharpen better than plastic
  • black felt tip pens, broad and fine tips (suggested: one pentel sign pen black and one pilot fineliner black.)
  • ‘soft’ vine charcoal (a couple of sticks)
  • compressed charcoal. recommended brand: alphacolor “charkole” compressed rectangular bars. (do not buy charcoal pencils or kohinoor or general brand compressed charcoal)
  • white plastic eraser
  • kneaded gum eraser
  • metal erasing shield
  • drafting tape
  • one box of push-pins (1/2" stainless steel point 1/2" aluminum head)
  • spray fix for charcoal drawings (to be used only in the spray booth in the basement)
  • No.11 X-acto knife & blades and/or Olfa (or similar) matt knife
  • cutting mat, minimum 12" x 18" [18" x 24" preferable]
  • 8 1/2" x 11" 3-ring binder with both unlined & grid paper [for note taking and sketching] or a 7x10 spiral sketchbook
  • 18” or 24" cork-backed metal straightedge/ruler

to share with your lockermate:
  • a combination lock
  • a bottle of windex and roll of paper towels

2. these items should be purchased for exercise 2, before 09.06
  • 24" roll of canary yellow tracing paper
  • 24” roll of white tracing paper
  • 18" x 24" 2-ply Bristol pad
  • 18"x24" (translucent) Vellum pad (note: vellum is translucent paper; do not buy opaque paper with a vellum finish))
  • draft dots (one box)
  • pounce sock aka dry cleaning pad
  • drafting brush
  • white glue: Sobo, Elmer's PVA, etc
  • 3 leadholders in 3 different colors
  • leads for lead holder (buy at least one of each of the following weights): HB, 2H, 4H, 6H
  • lead pointer
  • 12" architect's scale
  • 12" engineer's scale
  • 10" or 12" 30/60 triangle (for pencil work)
  • 10" or 12" 45/45 triangle (for pencil work)
  • adjustable triangle
  • re-writable CDs
  • 1-ply corrugated cardboard sheet

strongly recommended:
a good quality compass (crucial to help you construct circles, ellipses, etc.). you might also consider buying the attachment for an x-acto blade which would enable you to cut arcs

3. please do not purchase the following items until specific quantities, types, brands, etc have been described by your instructor:
  • 2-ply white museum board (strathmore brand)
  • chipboard
