“Perspective”
We have done perspective drawings. Perspective is a very important and pivotal method of drawing three-dimensional space on two-dimensional paper. First of all, the definition of linear perspective is a scientific method of determining the correct placement of forms in space and the degree to which such forms appear to diminish in size at a given distance. To do perspective drawing, we use some tools to measure or compare the relative sizes of the objects, space, distance, and the relationship to one another. As a beginner, perspective drawing is very hard and difficult. However, if we use mechanics of linear perspective such as the horizon line and vanishing points, we can make better drawings. Once we start this perspective drawing, we are not supposed to move our position, other wise we have to hold our viewfinders until the work is done. Then you draw what you see with eyes. The vision seen by our eyes is called the cone of vision. When we do the perspective drawing, we can not avoid seeing the circles. These circles are very hard not even to beginners but also to the advanced artists. The three most frequent errors made are; outer edges drawn as points, front and back edges flattened, upper circle drawn too full as compared to lower circle. Also, shadow is very important part of perspective drawing to establish volume and create drama in their perspective fantasies. Three components of shadows are the source of light, the direction of light, and the angle of light.
“Learning to see”
Expressing what one sees is very basic skill in art work. However to express effectively, one must be able to analyze the relationships of size, space, shape, value, and texture. To do so, we need to use not only our eyes but also out brains to coordinate our eyes with our hands. Drawing is very hard because drawing is to express three-dimensional object on two-dimensional paper. To overcome this difficulty we use perspective when drawing from a different viewpoint.
“Designing and inquiring”
First of all, I learned that designing is not so easy, it can’t be done in one day. It say that designing is a lineal and sequential process. The main purpose of designing is to make harmony in our surrounding world. Also, one important key point of this reading is that designing and inquiring is affected by what we see, hear, read, and learn. Experiencing is very important to improve skills of designing and inquiring. Also, openness and dialogue is very important to manage designing and inuring. Last but not least, documenting is very important to leave ea trace for ourselves so that we know what we need to work on.
“Drawing us in”
This article starts with an anecdote. John Bergers meets writer Latife Teken. They don’t know each other’s language, but start from drawing each other end up laughing together. John communicated successfully without understanding each other’s language but with using drawing as a tool to communicate. John suggests that drawing can function in three distinct ways. First one is to study what is visible. Second method is to record and communicate ideas. John describes this process as emigration rather than delivering. The last one is to draw from memory. Author the secret of drawing is in the paper
"Reading summary6"
Value is degrees of light and dark. Every objects has a relative degree of lightness or darkness. Perception of value depends upon several factors such as the actual coloration of the subject, its lightness or darkness relative to its surrounding, and the degree to which the subject is illuminated or in shadow. The artists should be able to analyze the relative value rather than just looking at local value. By using the lightness or darkness, the shape or form can be defined. For example, direction of light determines what portions of a form will be lighted. Chiaroscuro is Italian word combining light and dark. This shows continuous gradation of value. There are seven different values such as highlight, light, shadow, core of shadow, reflected light, reflected shadow, and cast shadow. Just like form, space can be also defined by light by using the pattern of light and dark. Pattern also defines form and space. Not even pattern defines form and space, but also it’s a good source of decorating. By using different range of values, it can convey different feeling. For example, contrasts of value convey a feeling of aliveness and vigor. Close value relationships create a sense of quite, soothing restfulness or of introspection and brooding subjectivity. Color also can be a important source of showing value. Good use of color can be tested by taking a photograph in black and white. If it shows clear gradation of light, it is a good drawing. Hue is a local color, value refers to lightness and darkness, and intensity is a degree of strength and brilliance. Value can be tinted by adding white or adding black to darken the shade. One important fact is that value is always relative.
