Week10
Tuesday(march,11)

Mid-Term Review

in-class
  • We`ll have the Mid-Term Review
  • Pin-up due for review is Monday (March,11), 9.oopm. You need to pin-up ALL your materials (required for mid-term review) including unfinished ones by that time. After strategizing the layout of your panel, you can continue working on your unfinished peieces.
  • We`ll use the bridge in the east architecture building.
  • 1.5 panels for each student and people working at similar locations or previous group partner will pin-up next to each other.
  • 2 people will present together. Each student will have 3 minutes to present.
  • In order to curate your wall, and make a condense presentation consider your work in the light of these dominant review questions:
1. What influences the experience along a building skin?
2. What factors might be significant as I begin a design intervention within the path under study?
3. The review goals include:
  • For each to leave understanding effectiveness of different modes of gathering data
  • For each to leave understanding effectiveness of different representational and info organizational strategies
  • For each to leave aware of significance of design research and design concepts
  • For each to leave impressed with the significance of design manipulations in a building skin – no matter how subtle – and their contribution to spatial experience
  • For each to recognize processes undertaken as scaffolds for the design processes of up and coming exercise 6.

. I put together a ppt file that will be helpful for getting ready to the review. You will find slides about what to pin up, how to pin up on the panel, what to revise_redo and how to improve the quality of the work. Please print this file and refer to it when you are working.
HELPFUL MATERIAL TO GET READY FOR THE REVIEW

. Specifically try to answer the following questions for Ex5.4 and include your findings in your verbal presentation.

  • Sound study: Strategy+procedure followed connecting the locations for creating the path. What are the specific foregrounding sound qualities at each location that helped you develop your path? Why you decide to connect these specific sound qualities? How physical characteristics of the space affect the perception of sound? How the sound is shaped in various ways in different spaces, try to generalize your specific comparisons!

  • Light Study: What is the relationship between physical-formal qualities of shadow maker (size: height-width; form:planar-volumetric), orientation of space, time, orientation of space, and shadow pattern (size, shape, distortion)? Why and how the shadow patterns are changing?
