Pay special attention to what constitutes plagiarism. Review the Plagiarism and Citation guidelines at http://cool.coa.gatech.edu/coolx/7 Attendance Given the nature of design inquiry, regular attendance and work patterns are crucial to the production of good work in studio classes such as COA 1011 and COA 1012. In the workshop-like environment of the studio, you will learn as much from your peers – from their work and their work methods, from their input and observations – as you will from the instructors. Work done in private, or at the last minute, will invariably not stand up to public scrutiny. Get in the habit of doing your work on a daily basis, at a regular time. Do not succumb to the temptation of leaving everything to the last minute, or for the night before it is due. Keeping this in mind, studio attendance is mandatory. No unexcused absences are allowed. Missing more than a week's classes (2 TUTH, 3 MWF) will drop your final grade by a full-letter grade. Instructors will keep a written record of your attendance. Being habitually late for class will also drop your grade. (3 late arrivals to class will be treated as an absence.) Coming to class briefly, leaving early, or spending time socializing with your friends, does not count for attendance. Moreover, it is a waste of everyone's time, including your own. If you need to miss class for health reasons, you will need to make sure that you have a note from a medical practitioner. Making up work missed because of absences is the responsibility of the student. The instructor has the right to refuse to accept work presented after the date it is due. Participation in pin-ups and reviews is mandatory. Failure to attend and present at a review will affect the grade you receive for the project. If you are involved in an activity for which you are compensated by scholarship funding that may conflict with studio attendance, you should bring that to the attention of your instructor. Studio Protocols Desks, drawing surfaces, parallel bars, flat file storage, and lockers, are provided by the College of Architecture for your use. The drawing surfaces and parallel bars are fragile items; please take good care of them. Do not use glue or x-acto knives on the desktops. Glue and knives will damage the drawing surfaces. Use the desks with plain wood tops for work that requires cutting or gluing. Always use a cutting mat; this will keep your cuts straight. It will also save your blades as well as the surface on which you are doing the cutting. Use of all aerosol products – spray paint, spray mount, fixative – is strictly prohibited in the studio, in the building, and in the areas immediately adjacent outside. This includes the stairways and the courtyards. A spray booth is located in the basement, outside the woodshop, for your use. The designated pin-up and review space for the Common First Year is the atrium on the first floor. MWF am and TUTH am and pm sections will use additional spaces in the building. Each section is responsible for returning the moveable panels to the area where they are stored after each review. Please also get into the habit of picking up your trash (soda cans, paper, etc.) after each review or work session in the public areas of the building. Please get in the habit of using the last ten minutes of each class putting away or work, cleaning and wiping off the desktops, and throwing away any trash that you may have generated. Leave the desktop and work area clean and clear so that the next student can get to work right away. Try and keep charcoal dust from staining the drawing surface. Use a sheet of paper to shield the surface when you are using the desk top for charcoal work. Please keep noise and conversation to a minimum while class is in session. Portable stereo equipment cannot be used without permission of the studio instructor. Please turn off all cell phones and beepers during studio. If you are the last to leave studio, please make sure both studio doors are locked. The combination for the double doors is 12-3-5. [first 1 and 2 together, then 3, then 5] |
