Is the Center for Geographic Information Systems at GA Tech working with the Atlanta Beltline? It seems like this would be an excellent opportunity to help the community by providing your technical expertise to help shape the future of Atlanta in the form of the Beltline. I know that some proponents have been removing their support of the Beltline because it is taking so long to active. It would also be of GA Tech's interest, seeing as how the Beltline was originated by an Architecture and Urban Planning graduate student as his thesis.

This question might be a bit uninformed, but I'll ask it anyway :
How far away in the future is a program that takes in certain values (such as land size, number of houses, rivers, etc.) , processes it, and lays out a city/area plan ? So basically instead of having someone plan an area for example you can enter the land, number of house, and some general info and have it do it for you ?
  • Why would you want a computer to do it all for you? Wouldn't it be better if we could make the choices ourselves and use the computer as a tool, rather than let the computer decide what's best for us?
