Rebekah Hogue 1060 Exit Reflection One My favorite set of lectures were the ones involving streets, especially the one given by Professor Kahn about the vision of Fifth Street as a grand boulevard. I enjoyed his slide show of the pictures of the Fifth Street Bridge before and after its remodeling and his explanation of the various uses of the street. I was fascinated by the information given and the lecture made me actually interested in writing the research paper. Two I really enjoyed the Katrina reading. I hadn’t really paid very much attention to many of the issues going on in New Orleans, especially after the media coverage died down, so that reading was very informative as well as interesting. Three My favorite assignment was the research paper, partly because I like to write and partly because I was very interested in the topic. I really found all of the different aspects of the street fascinating. Four Summarizing the lectures required actively listening and thinking about what each speaker was trying to communicate. A good understanding of the material made it infinitely easier to write a well thought out and informative summary. Summarizing the reading required much of the same, but it was important to add a good analysis rather than just restating the topic. The essay incorporated both of these types of summary but also required even more analysis on the part of the student. The group research project required teamwork as well as in depth individual research. Our TA held us accountable for really knowing about what we were studying, I really enjoyed the take home question for the final because it allowed us to show what we learned about specific things that truly interested us, rather than memorizing volumes of material and not really focusing on any one thing like we did for the midterm. Five It was nice to have the bi-weekly meetings with our TA because it gave us a chance to ask question and discuss class assignments and requirements. My TA, however, did not always seem to be well-prepared for these sessions, so I did not feel that we were able to take full advantage of them. Six I didn’t really understand the “multiple-part-methodology”. If this refers to the various scales we looked at, I think they would have been more effective if they had been a bit more streamlined. For our time stamps assignment, we had the seven buildings, the time period, the six aspects (architecture, material culture, etc) and the six filters (national, international, etc.), I felt that these were too many topics to create a cohesive project out of. I can sort of see the point, but I think better organization or direction may have made it easier to understand. Seven I would be interested in taking classes about the built environment, especial from a cross or inter disciplinary perspective. Some of our most interesting lectures were about these topics, and I would be very keen to learn more about how the different disciplines work together (or not). Eight I’m still fascinated about the streets, I never really thought about how many different aspects they were influenced by. This principle carries into various other areas too, which I also and interested by. Nine Is it possible for the street to be an environment shared equally between drivers and pedestrians? Ten I am very interested in city planning, infrastructure, and the interaction of the three disciplines together. Jack Nuttmann 1. I enjoyed the architecture career lecture the most because it opened my mind to the career that I planned to pursue. It showed me the subfields I could pursue. 2. I enjoyed the reflections the most because it let me express my thoughts and what I learned. 3. Summarize the lectures was pretty straight forward, review the lectures and summarize them. Summarize readings was the same as the lectures. The essays made me reflect on my previous thoughts and work. The research took a lot of time planning and cooperation. The formulation of the question took a lot more thought and time then I thought, but I enjoyed the idea. 4. They where not very helpful and the tasks due for them were pointless. 5. I really don’t know why we did it, it seemed more to get us to researching then anything else. 6. Yes I would be 7. That architecture takes a lot more time then I thought it did. 8. I am eager as an architecture student to explore the challenges of expanding and further developing current futuristic ideas, such as: self-sustainability (zero energy homes), ‘green’ buildings, and creating healthier/happier environments for citizens to live, but I wonder how can these ideas, that are currently limited to the elite who can afford them, be spread to the middle class, the poor, and foreign third world countries? 10. The work after college. Katherine King 1. My favorite lecture was the one that Dr. Zimring presented about architecture, culture, and behavior. It was a perspective on design that I had never really thought about before, and it was fascinating to see how, through research of a particular culture and its behavior, how buildings and products could be designed to fits that culture’s needs. 2. The reading that I enjoyed the most was the one about Paris, France, and the common Flaneur. I am fascinated by that city, and the reading took a perspective on it that was different and interesting. 3. The most intriguing assignment was the 5th street assignment because of the readings. I never really knew how much psychology went behind the design of one, or how a street could really fail in its functionality. 4. a) For the assignments in which I had to summarize lectures, I had to draw upon my notes, as well as my own background of learning in order to write a successful analysis of the lectures. b) To summarize the readings, I had to be diligent in the details in the readings so that I knew what I was writing about. I couldn’t afford to not read anything because they all somehow interconnected. c) In the essays, I had to draw upon my writing skills, as well as my observance skills in order to write an essay that was clear and informative. d) The research project required teamwork and collaboration between group members in order to successfully complete the assignment. e) The formulation of a question that drew from the entire semester required me to reflect back on all of the lectures a readings in order to come up with one that drew upon everything I had learned. 5. I found these meetings to be unhelpful. Not receiving information directly from the creator of the assignment often times lead to miscommunication and frustration in completing the assignments. The TA would interpret the assignment in his or her own way, and we(the students) were left with something that wasn’t exactly the original assignment because it had gone through a process of “telephone” before reaching us. The research project was especially frustrating because of this. If the preceptorials are continued through next year’s CFY, get more feedback from the students to make sure that we understand the assignments. The grading process I noticed was also different between each TA. Next year, give specific grading criteria so that the TA’s, once again, don’t interpret it for their own. 6. I think it was effective because each new assignment built upon the last. I think this process was emphasized because as a designer we have to be capable of noticing and appreciating the fine details, as well as the big picture. 7. I am very interested in taking classes that cross cultures as well as lifestyles. I think, as a designer, one needs to have a broad education that is cross- disciplinary in order to be an effective designer. I believe that designers can’t afford to be ignorant of the world around them, otherwise their designs will suffer for it and we will never break new ground. 8. The most surprising aspect was the fact that designers hold a great weight of the world’s well- being on their shoulders, from obesity to the functionality of whole cities. It was surprising to me to learn how much my career would blanket going beyond just the design process. 9. In today’s society, does artistic license in the design world get in the way of the overall functionality of societal infrastructure? 10. I would like the lectures to focus on the majors individually from time to time, but also show how they all can be incorporated into one process, because in our careers we will be working close together if the design process is done correctly. Cynthia Utz 1060 Reflections I really enjoyed a number of lectures equally. Top ten reasons you should be ID was just fun to listen to. I’m always eager to be immersed in the design world. I also really liked the lectures on disability and solar decathlon. The solar decathlon was interesting because I would love to see us move towards greener design, so I’m always interested in how we are moving towards greener design. The lecture on disability was interesting because the idea of designing spaces universally . Of the readings I found the paper on plazas to be the most interesting. I started to see a lot of the patterns that the writer discovered while investigating plazas. I found the observation of the installations to be the most interesting. I really enjoyed trying to determine how they were put together and what they were imitating. I’ve done that for a while now. I sat, while waiting on someone, and studied the elevator in the mall and how it worked. Summarizing the lectures required a recall of what was said during the lecture and what his main points were. The readings required gathering of information that was relevant to the topic. Essay writing required critical thinking of the topic. The research project required thinking that made deep connections between an idea and a design in the context of culture. The final required us to think critically about something we were interested in and make connections among our bank of knowledge. I found the TA discussion sessions to be more of a time to ask questions then to really discuss what was going on in the class. It could have been interesting if it was set up more like studio where there was open discussion about the topics and less of spending a whole class explaining assignments. Splitting up projects made us think about each part that we were doing more. I think that by breaking it up we were forced to see things more roundedly. I would be interested in taking cross/interdisciplinary courses, but not like this. I felt like there was a lot of hours that when into this class that didn’t always return the depth of information and connections that it intended because of how much was going on. I walked away from 1060 with a broadened scope of design perspectives. How can we design for hybrid exercise with out compromising, neglecting, or segregating the disabled? Universal design in ID and architecture, sustainable design, human centered design, and please show the bc kids some love! Paola Pulido 1. among the range of lectures on various topics, which was your favorite lecture and why? I had two favorite lectures, the Disability and Design lecture and the Architecture Culture and Behavior lecture. They were my favorites, because they demonstrated how design directly affects human behavior and interaction. It also affects human development. I also liked how you could apply these lectures to various fields of study and not just architecture. 2. which reading did you find most intriguing or provocative? I actually enjoyed the readings we did for the 5th Street essay, especially Kostoff’s The Street. It gave me a completely new perspective on something I never really paid any attention to before. 3. which assignment did you find most intriguing or provocative? I found the final exam the most intriguing. I am counting it as one of the assignments since we had to prepare for it. It was definitely nothing like any final exam I have ever taken, but I think it is one of the ones I have gotten the most out of. 4. describe the kind of thinking and doing required by EACH of the following types of assignments: a) summarize lectures; b) summarize readings; c) essay writing (drawing upon readings and observations); d) research: extended group research on the way buildings are 'time stamped' ; e) formulation/preparation of a question (that reflects back upon the semester) for the take-home final. a) Thinking on a larger scale and through different disciplines. Thinking about the future and its possibilities. B) Process what we read and incorporate what we learned in class C) Put our own spin on things we experienced ourselves and things experienced by others D) Working with others and understanding the past and how time affects people and the environment in which they live E) Really taking in all that we learned and harnessing those skills for future use. Thinking about what we can do with the skills we learned, are learning, and are going to learn. 5. this year was the first time we did bi-weekly GTA discussion periods. were they helpful? what would you recommend for the next time we do them? I would recommend them, because it gave personal sense to the class. However, I would try to make it so that each TA gave the same workload. 6. what did you think of the multiple-part methodology we asked you to use for one of the assignments (the reading on post-katrina new orleans) and for the 'time stamps' research project? why do you think we emphasized this way of looking at the world? I think it was a great idea. This was what got me to notice how much the built environment influences us. I think this was emphasized so that we can now look at the world in the same way as we learn to become key players in the design and built environment. 7. would you be interested taking courses, over the next few years, that look at the designed and built world from an inter-disciplinary or cross-disciplinary perspective? Andrew Hong 1060 Exit Reflection 1. My favorite lecture would be the one documenting the changes made over at Atlantic Station. It is interesting to see what can be done to an old, non-benefiting piece of land to better serve the people and community. 2. I found the Katrina essays to be particularly provocative and interesting, as they covered a wide range of issues behind a natural cause. It is also interesting to see how a natural occurrence can bring growth to a wide range of man-made concepts, topics of debate and so on. 3. I personally enjoyed the essay on 5th Street, as it allowed me to investigate the qualities of the street and further reflect upon it. I had a negative attitudes towards the project, as I believed such an improvement could’ve been carried out a different way. 4.a) summarization of lectures allowed us to look back on the material presented and pull out what was most fascinating. b) the reading summaries acted in a similar manner to the lectures, as they focused on the most important parts and allowed us to fully comprehend the material given. c) Essays allowed us to personally share our notions as well as reflect upon the given material such as the readings and combine both together in an efficient and comprehensive manner d) Research allowed us to look deeper into the subject matter and pull out what’s important. e) the formulation and preparation for the final essay allowed us to study on a particular topic at our own pace and forced us to pull out resources on our own. Readings where not given to us, so we had to do our own research. 5. The bi-weekly discussions were not very helpful and I do not recommend them. 6. Things must be looked at through a wide range of perspectives and view points. What one person believes may differ completely from another – but does that make one person’s answer 100% false? No. we look at the world at different angles to further understand its different qualities. 7. I believe its important to somehow combine both cross and inter. 8. Learning to look at the world through a different lense – learning to accept or argue different perspectives and choices that are being made. 9. My question focused on the existence of gated communities, and why people prefer to retreat to their individual space of solitude and privacy. I focused on the social factors as well as the psychological factors involved. 10. I believe its important to explore each major very carefully and to present the truths behind each profession. For example, I’m still unsure whether or not I want to pursue Arch. or ID so it would be nice to learn about each profession in depth. Bringing in professionals to lecture us would be really nice. Jungwoo Ok 1060 exit reflection 1. My favorite lecture was the solar decathlon. As the world is pursuing for the natural resources that do not contaminate the environment, I am also interested in using natural resource. I did not know that solar decathlon is happening on many countries. The information and actual planning of using solar energy in the house attracted me. I could see the solar energy based house in front of architecture building after the lecture. 2. The reading about the street was the most intriguing one for me. What I knew before I read was that street is for just traffic issues, but I did not realize that there are such a variety of functions for the street as an environmental value for human lives. 3. As the reading was the most difficultly understood, 5th street essay was the most intriguing assignment. Writing about street value and how to develop was very challenging for me. It was difficult to write about the relationship between the appearances of physical streets to social value. 4. Summarizing lectures required me to review the previous 3 lectures and re-think about the lectures. Thinking about the main point of each lecture was required. Reading was very long and complicated for me. Summarizing the readings helped me to extracting the idea and good source to review after I read. Essay writing required a lot of thinking based on my view of the 5th street and knowledge for the street itself. Research project required me to do deeply understand about my area in the group. It was hard to bring together with other people’s thought in the final form of the project. Making a formulation for the Question required overall idea through the whole lectures and assignments. What I have learned and how to develop were the main thought for this final exam. 5. I guess not many students participated in weekly discussion. Many students were busy to do their assignments and did not have a lot of time to do the discussion. 6. The multiple-part methodology may not be related to the architecture. However, even though it does not directly help the idea in architectural world, it actually assists people to have a variety of points of views to look the world to develop into creative thought. It will bring the students to have remarkable answers for living environment. 7. I would take cross-disciplinary perspective because it can develop my idea from different subject areas. 8. The most surprising take-away in this course is to look at the world from different point of view. Not only the physical shapes of buildings and environment, but also the social values are required to look in this class. 9. I asked the question about how the buildings can develop into form of the Architecture. I answered people have to see building with the environment as a one unit to create the Architecture. 10. I would like to focus on architecture because I want to design a building. YoungJu Lee 1060 Exit Reflection 1. My favorite lecture was the “What thinking and making fills the CFY studio” on August 22. Personally, I liked it because it was the first lecture that actually made me to think that 1060 lecture class and the 1011 studio class is connected. 2. Readings about the fifth street, which was over 200 pages, was most provocative since it was intensive amount of readings and also the printing papers were irritating. 3. Research paper assignment for “the street” since I had no clue what fifth street looked like before I have received this assignment. 4. a) I think summarizing the lectures actually helps students to focus a lot to the class. Before this assignment, there was no reason for me to write any note for the lectures. b) Same goes for the readings also, since many people skim through the readings and not actually focus on its contents. c) Writing the essay was a nice preparation for the actually examination on this course because both midterm and final included the essay writing portion d) Doing the research with group was not a good idea for this course. Why? Because in group, some people slack off and some people really put their efforts to the assignment. Therefore, it was sort of unfair and unequal. e) Actually the take-home final helped me to think deeply about the contents of the past assignments and lectures. 5. Having a class with GTA was helpful to us. First because there was the actually attendance, so we had to present on the class and pay attention. Second, we could focus more in depth to recognize what we need to do. 6. Honestly, I do not understand why 1060 lecture class asked for the methodology for the world view. I hope this course could be more focus on the subject area topic such as an architecture, id, bc, or civil engineering. 7. I would be more interested in designed and built world from an inter-disciplinary so that I could get more ideas and concepts to build and create new. 8. Most surprising take-away from this course is intensive writing and reading skills. I have learned a lot to write and read because of this course. 9. How can we overcome the traffic problems in modern days? 10. Since I am attending Georgia Tech to learn more about architecture, I think students and professionals should focus on the actual major concepts 1060 Exit Reflection 1. My favorite lecture was the Industrial Design one where the lady showed us many examples and videos of Industrial Designs. It really reminded me why i wanted to do this program and motivated me to think creatively as well. 2. I found the reading on what a street is to be very interesting. It made me think more about what goes in on the design of everything that is involved in makign an urban street. 3. I did found the assigment on 5th street inriguing. I did not know the history of it before and it was cool to learn about it and how much work has gone into this one street. 4. Summarizing lectures allowed me to go back and recap everything that I learned. Summarize readings was not really that helpful to me. The essay writing taught me a lot and was very interesting as well as helpful. I did not find the research project to be very helpful and rather saw it as somewhat pointless and dragged out. I think you could find something a lot better to do a research project on. 5. I found the bi-weekly meeting fairly helpful because I could answer any questions I had, but it did not seem to serve any other purpose. I suppose it could be used for giving tutorials to things such as photoshop and illustrator because the one widespread lecture was unhelpful. 6. I did not enjoy this stuff at all. I think they were emphasized to help us learn to look forward in design and to use our own time stamps. 7. No i would not 8. I did not really take away anything surprising. I think the only helpful lectures were the three on Arch, BC, and ID. They helped me gather an understanding of what was involved in each. 9. How can Industrial Design be incorporated in Architecture, and what would the impact be? 10. I think this is a great idea. I would like them to focus on what is involved in each field and what to expect when getting out of college. Cait Meree 1060 Exit Reflection 1. My favorite lecture was the lecture on Atlantic Station because I enjoyed learning about what Atlantic Station was, and why it was designed in the way that it is. 2. I thought the Katrina reading was provocative because it opened my eyes to the actual feelings and emotions that Katrina evoked, through more than just TV clips and newspaper stories. 3. I thought the wood instillation/ plastic wave assignment was very provocative in that it challenged us to really look at the instillations and think about them. 4. a) the lecture summarizing required us to process what we learned and think back on it and what it actually meant. b) Summarizing the readings played a similar part as the summarizing of lectures. By summarizing the readings, we were forced to digest what we learned. c) Essay writing allowed us to verbally state was we learned as well as process the information in an organized way. d) Research allowed us to use the intense looking we learned form 1011 as well as the knowledge processing we learned in 1060 to use in a different, non design field. e) The formulation/ preparation of a question allowed us to wrap everything we learned all semester together and make our own deduction. 5. The GTA discussions were not helpful and I don’t recommend we do them again. They did no more justice to the class than what could have been done in a communal discussion. 6. It was helpful in looking at the world in two different ways. I think you did it so we could digest information in one way and then analyze a different perspective on the information another way. 7. I would be. I think cross-disciplinary knowledge is crucial to an excellent design program. 8. The most surprising take-away from the course is that design is more than just coming up with a good idea and running with it, it involves a lot of planning, cross-disciplinary knowledge, and morphology. 9. “What are the pros and cons of modern architecture that is seemingly more focused on aesthetics than functionality?” 10. I would like them to focus on the cross-disciplinary needs of each major and how each major needs to work together to produce one thorough project. wenwen zhao 1060 exit reflection the 1060 recap/exit reflection is a series of questions to which we would like you to give brief but thoughtful responses. this will help us enormously in continuing to fine-tune the course. 1. among the range of lectures on various topics, which was your favorite lecture and why? My favorite lecture is the culture design and human behavior one. I think the idea of that lecture is very interesting and important in the design world. It makes me think of what is a good design. To fit society and people’s need and use the power of design to change human behavior and maybe solve social problems. 2. which reading did you find most intriguing or provocative? I think the most intriguing reading is the street reading during the big essay. It shows me that a simple design can change people’s action and cause the success or fail of a space all together. For example the placing of benches can have that affect on a public space. 3. which assignment did you find most intriguing or provocative? I think the street essay is very intriguing because it make me think of some thing everyday and simple design can have a huge affect on something that is so universal accepted already. I see the power of design. 4. describe the kind of thinking and doing required by EACH of the following types of assignments: a) summarize lectures; b) summarize readings; c) essay writing (drawing upon readings and observations); d) research: extended group research on the way buildings are 'time stamped' ; e) formulation/preparation of a question (that reflects back upon the semester) for the take-home final. A) Summarizing lectures make us to pay attention in lecture and put a lecture in our own words that help us to understand the lecture better. B) Summarizing reading is the same thinking as summarizing lecture those kinds of works helps us to understand what we are reading. C) I think writing an essay is a way to show that we understand the reading and observations and put those new ideas in to our own thoughts and express our own point of view on those ideas that are introduce in those reading and observation. D) The research we have done really help us to understand the object we are studying and we have the opportunity to go beyond. E) I think this formulation of a question is really opportunity to reflect on what we have learned and connected that knowledge to everyday life and make us think about how can we use those knowledge in our design and start to thinking of design can change the word. 5. this year was the first time we did bi-weekly GTA discussion periods. were they helpful? what would you recommend for the next time we do them? I don’t think this is very helpful we did not really discuss anything that is helpful for us students. I think we should not have weekly discussion. 6. what did you think of the multiple-part methodology we asked you to use for one of the assignments (the reading on post-katrina new orleans) and for the 'time stamps' research project? why do you think we emphasized this way of looking at the world? I think it is important to look at things in a multiple part methodology, because in the design world there is never a right answer but the best answer. To get that best fit answer to a problem we have to look at all angles, the society the people the political and economical points of view. I think is very good that this class emphasized this way of looking at the world. It gives a opportunity to get a senses of what a designer needs. 7. would you be interested taking courses, over the next few years, that look at the designed and built world from an inter-disciplinary or cross-disciplinary perspective? I think I would like to take a course that look at the built world from a cross disciplinary perspective. 8. what is the most surprising take-away from this course? (it could be an idea, fact, skill, or something else). I think the most surprising take away from this course is the idea of looking at the world in a multiple skill and that could open our eyes into so many different perspective and different possibility of design. 9. please write down the question you formulated for the take-home final. you can either just write the question. or you can copy and paste the answer you prepared in response to the five-part scaffold. The question is: what constitute a good design. In the paper I answer the question in those different skill: the economic , the social need, the human interaction, the political. 10. the lecture hour in coa 1012 will focus on the three majors: arch, bc, and id as well as on issues shared by all of them. we plan on inviting both students and professionals. what would you like them to focus on? I am interested to go in to arch so I would like to know more about architecture but I would also like to know what are those design industry have in comment. Rebecca Fenster 1. I found Craig Zimring’s lecture on Architecture, Culture, and Behavior to be the most interesting. It brought up points I had not thought about before such as how the built environment affects us. It was something I hadn’t really thought about and also had not really thought about how it related to the field of architecture. 2. I found the reading on the Social Life of the Street the most intriguing. I had never really thought about a street as a social area but in fact many social interactions take place on the street, and this article helped me to see that. 3. My favorite assignment was the first one we did on the installments inside the atrium of the Architecture building and right outside of the building. I felt it was the most effective for our own sake. It also went along with our investigation and intense looking/thinking skills we were working on in 1011. 4. I felt most of the assignments we did in this class didn’t require much thinking just a lot of doing. In summarizing the lecture we didn’t really have to do much thinking aside from coming up with questions, which intrigued us about the lecture. I also felt the research project did not require much thinking; I did not find it to be a very effective assignment. I felt as though we were simply finding images more so than really learning a lot about the time period, we were doing very minimal research and it was not what I was expecting when I heard we were doing a research project. The essay on Fifth Street is the only assignment I felt required much thought, because it asked for our opinion on whether or not the renovation was a success. 5. I didn’t particularly find the discussions to be helpful mainly because ours weren’t really discussions. We never really had enough time to go over what we needed to have done or needed to be working on for the next class. I think however, this was partially due to the TA. I feel they would have been helpful had we had more instruction on what we needed to work on for the next preceptorial meeting. 6. I felt the research we did on post-Katrina New Orleans was pointless. I understand you were trying to help us to learn research skills but I felt the assignment was a waste of time because we did not use any of the information we found. Not only that but we also did even use that same type of finding information in our research project. 7. I think courses on the built and designed environment from a cross-disciplinary perspective could be interesting. 8. The different scales on which one can study these fields was the most surprising take-away. 9. How does the built and designed environment affect us not only physically but also emotionally? 10. I would like the lecturers to focus on specific aspects of each field, different things that can be done with them, etc. Adrienne Bozeman 12/12/07 1060 Exit Reflection 1) The lecture by Zimring on Architecture, Culture, and Behavior because it connected the abstract ideas of design that is only appealing to the eye with the practical and useful side of a functional design. 2) I found the reading “The Social Life of the Street” to be the most interesting because it considered the street as not only a place for cars but for all types of transportation whether it be sitting, walking, biking, or driving. 3) I found that the Fifth Street essay was the most provocative of our assignments because it forced us to take a different look on a street as a venue for many types of activities and challenged us to consider it a success in design as well as function. 4) a. Summarizing lectures required a type of analytical thought process to try and pull from each speaker the main point along with definitions and questions to further our investigation of each topic. b. Summarizing readings also required an analytical thought process because you have to decide which part is the most important of a very rich reading. c. Essay writing required a creative mindset that pulled together facts that were gathered from the reading as well as your own thoughts, ideas, and opinions about the topic. d. The research we did on the material culture of our particular time period forced me to find relevant information in a sea of vast not-so-relevant information. It was sometimes very difficult and discouraging to find images and literature that pertained to our topic. e. The formulation and preparation for the final exam took a mindset of reflection and summarization about what I was interested in ultimately. It required me to decide on a topic that intrigued me and then expand on it by analyzing lectures and forming further questions. 5) Some of the discussion periods were helpful for clarifying assignments and what was expected, but they were not always as productive as was planned. Often times we would make it through the first four presentations and then not have enough time for the last three which was frustrating to the people who had to present as well as the people who didn’t get the chance. I feel like the meetings would be more beneficial if there was a stricter schedule or clearer information. 6) I feel like the multiple-part methodology of reading and analyzing and then reporting back was a good method in theory but sometimes was not necessary. I found that in many cases I was struggling to come up with questions to ask that fit the criteria that were actually not very relevant to the other questions I had in mind. This thinking causes you to look at the information as a whole, summarize it, and then draw some of your own conclusions which are all very good skills to hone. 7) Yes, I believe that classes that look at the built world from an inter-disciplinary perspective would be very beneficial to my education and provide extensive background and a new perspective for my profession. 8) The most surprising idea that I had from this course is the ability of design, not just aesthetic side, to influence human behavior. 9) How does my education at Tech prepare me for design-build work in third-world countries? 10) I would like them to focus on the distinct differences between the majors so that we can get a feel for which major we want to pursue as well as the cross over between the three so that I can be able to integrate my learning into the career that I choose. I would specifically like to hear someone speak on cost efficient building, infrastructure, or green building. Sarah Ivester 1. I thought that the most interesting presentation was that of Daniel Castro’s. I was interested in his because I am going into building construction. He gave a great speech about the program and I was very excited about going into that field after listening to him. He seemed to be very interested in it himself, and made the audience feel the same way. He was interesting and did not drone on and on. 2. I think that it would be interesting to learn about all kinds of different designs from all kinds of different perspectives. 8.
